Brisbane Powerhouse - 119 Lamington Street, New Farm

I went here last weekend to see Halfway(an awesome local band) play Live Spark. I was initially going to take my children but they had a long day after going to a birthday party. I only thought it would be thoughtful of me not to unleash my tired, sugar filled children upon other unwitting patrons. Blogging it wasn't initially on my agenda however seeing the usual large amounts of young families with their prams and kids I thought, why not?

The Powerhouse is an amazing iconic building in Brisbane set on the water (has great views of the river too.)... The name is pretty self explanatory for it's history so I won't really go into that. It's always completely fascinated me and I've always really loved the light in this building from a photographic perspective. Simply it just has so much amazing light interesting architecture, I enjoy photographing it in itself.

While they do have the Watt restaurant we found our place at Bar Alto (Italian cuisine) and made ourselves at home with some red wine and chips with aioli. They also do some amazing pizzas and while full sit down menu is not available before 5.30pm these are. You will most definitely find something her to quench your thirst and apetite. The other thing I love about Bar Alto is that from the area behind the bar you can see into the kitchen and watch them busily work away.

You are can move freely with those light snacks wether it be on the terrace, on the mezzanine or around the stage. There really is loads places to sit and space for spirited children and you canto explore while you can  still easily hear the music from wherever you wander. Plus there is plenty of space for prams and lift access even to the mezzanine levels.

Live spark is a free event run by the powerhouse where they have great bands or artists play on a Sunday afternoon. While they do have some ticketed events they also have more free events like Live spark on other days  wether it be music or even comedy. The powerhouse is an amazing place to be able to take your children to experience culture. It has a great relaxed atmosphere and even though it's quite busy there is plenty of room for families. I know some people have an issue with children around alcohol but I think this is a place where you see responsible drinking.

I really enjoyed my time here and even though there were lots of children it still maintained that relaxed vibe. The Powerhouse as a venue really proves that you can still have some semblance of a life after children. You don't need to completely miss out on  good music, food and wine while in the company of your children. Next time I go I will definitely be taking my children.

If you want to know more there is plenty of info on their homepage...
